Emily Nabong has been awarded her Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree for her thesis, Habitability Dynamics of Pacific Islands in a Changing Climate. Her research examined how climate change is reshaping the habitability of Pacific Island nations and the implications for migration and adaptation planning.
Emily’s doctoral work used systems thinking to unpack how climate change shapes migration and habitability – mapping the economic, environmental, demographic, political, and social factors that interact in climate migration decisions, identifying leverage points where policy interventions can build resilience, and developing system dynamics models of habitability in Kiribati. Along the way, she designed serious games that help decision-makers explore climate change adaptation choices. Publications from her thesis can be found on our publications page. Emily has been selected as a Christine Mirzayan Science and Technology Policy Fellow with the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine in Washington, D.C. Congratulations Dr Nabong!
