MPhil candidate Isaac Besarra was recognised with the best student presentation at the Association of Pacific Rim Universities (APRU) Sustainable Cities & Landscapes Conference held in Manila from 6 – 8 August 2024. Isaac’s presentation “What is the Cost of Climate Change? Examining Flood Risk at the Municipal Scale in the Philippines” shared recent findings modelling shifting flood impacts on residential structures.

The presentation drew on Isaac’s MPhil research assessing climate change impacts on flood risk in the Philippines, undertaken with collaborators at the University of the Philippines. The work combines housing fragility and vulnerability functions, derived from surveys of flood-damaged households in the Province of Leyte, with climate-projected flood models to understand how damage to housing in the Municipality of Carigara may shift under future climate scenarios.
