ASCE Selects Opdyke as 'New Face of Civil Engineering'

The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) has named Dr Aaron Opdyke one of its 2021 New Faces of Civil Engineering. The recognition celebrates ten early-career engineers each year whose work represents the breadth and future of the profession.

In an interview with ASCE’s Civil Engineering Source, Dr Opdyke traced the path that led him to humanitarian engineering — from volunteering with Engineers Without Borders on projects in India, Thailand, and Nicaragua, to working on housing reconstruction in the Philippines with Build Change in the aftermath of Typhoon Haiyan — and reflected on taking a holistic, people-centred approach to civil engineering education and research.
